Papua New Guinea High Flying Woman, Dr Yalinu Poya Gow Joins UWS to Spearhead Sustainable Technology and Waste Management Programs, Elevating Environmental Education and Research.

I am happy to start my new role as Lecturer in Environmental Science (equivalent to Assistant Professor in the United States) in the School of Computing, Engineering and Physical Sciences (CEPS) at the University of the West of Scotland (UWS). I will play a central role in delivering and developing the masters’ programmes Sustainable Technology and Waste and Resource Management and involved in the development of educational thinking, practice and research in the broad areas of curriculum design, learning and teaching, and assessment. I will also contribute to a range of physical sciences modules in undergraduate and masters programmes in the School of Computing, Engineering and Physical Sciences.  This year will be my fourth year to teach at British universities, and this will be my second year teaching at the University of the West of Scotland. My experience in Higher Education has been a rewarding journey as an early-career academic. I look forward to contributing my expertise and skills, support our brilliant students, collaborate with talented academics, learn from senior colleagues, and venture into innovative and world changing research at this young and dynamic university recognised by Times Higher Education in the top 150 universities worldwide under 50 years old (2022 Young University Rankings).

Dr Yalinu Poya Gow FHEA, an expert in Environmental Science from Papua New Guinea, has recently commenced her role as a Lecturer at the University of the West of Scotland (UWS), within the School of Computing, Engineering and Physical Sciences (CEPS).

In this capacity, Dr Yalinu Poya Gow will be actively involved in delivering and enhancing the master's programs in Sustainable Technology and Waste and Resource Management.

Her responsibilities will extend to shaping educational strategies, curriculum design, and research, with a focus on learning, teaching, and assessment.

Having already garnered three years of experience in teaching at British universities, this marks Dr Yalinu Poya Gow's second year at the University of the West of Scotland.

Her journey in Higher Education has been a fulfilling one, and she is eager to bring her expertise to bear, supporting students, collaborating with fellow academics, and engaging in cutting-edge research at this forward-thinking institution.

Notably, UWS has been recognized by Times Higher Education as one of the top 150 universities worldwide under 50 years old, adding to the appeal of this new academic venture.
