Australia's Renewable Energy Initiatives in Papua New Guinea
Australian High Commission Papua New Guinea |
Australia is working with PNG to improve access to reliable renewable energy solutions to help PNG meet its electrification needs.
Through repairs to the Ramu 1 hydropower station in Kainantu, Eastern Highlands Province, up to 17 megawatts of generation capacity has been made available for the Ramu grid, enabling more reliable power in major centres in
Madang, Morobe and the Highlands region.
On the Port Moresby grid, Australia is providing new capacitor banks and transformers at major substations to help stabilise power supply and reduce power outages.
Refurbishment works to the Rouna hydropower stations in Sogeri, Central Province have been completed to improve reliability and generation capacity on the grid, with further improvements expected in early 2024.
