On behalf of my family and our people of Papua New Guinea, I offer my thoughts and prayers to former President of the United States, Donald Trump as he recovers from a shooting incident over the weekend. There can be no place for violence of this nature in any democracy. President Trump was very supportive of strengthening America’s bilateral relationship with PNG. During his tenure as President, we enhanced security arrangements and built stronger ties with American investors. The USA under President Trump’s leadership was also a signatory to and major driver of the US$1.6 billion PNG Electrification Partnership signed at the 2018 APEC meeting.
