  Opposition Fights Controversial Bills, Court Allows No-Confidence Case LinkedIn Post by: James Guken - Journalist at EMTV  The Opposition has strongly opposed several new laws passed in Parliament, calling them unconstitutional and undemocratic. Key among them are: • The Christianity Bill, declaring PNG a Christian nation. • The Section 145 Amendment, blocking a Vote of No Confidence (VONC) for 18 months if a previous motion fails. • Amendments to the NEC and Prime Minister Act, making NEC decisions and the Prime Minister’s actions unquestionable. Deputy Opposition Leader James Nomane slammed the VONC restrictions as a dictatorial move and vowed to challenge them in court. Governor Allan Bird criticized the timing of these amendments, accusing the government of hypocrisy. MP Kerenga Kua warned that granting unchecked power to the Prime Minister weakens democracy.
